- Intercollegiate sports begin when Harvard raced again Yale in the sport of rowing
- Henry MacCracken of New York university, organized a meeting of 13 colleges to incite changes in football rules
- 62 colleges become charter members of the intercollegiate athletics association, which became known as the NCAA in 1910
- The first NCAA national championship was conducted, it was a track and field meet.
- Walter Byers became executive director and established a program to control live televised college football games.
- The athletic program splits into 3 divisions. Division I, Division II and Division III.
- The association allowed women athletics to be a part of their program.
- Today the NCAA is run by Mark Emmert, and over sees sports at over 1000 institutions and 450,000 student athletes
